“What’s That Technician Doing in My Basement?” – Part 2

Part two of a two-part post about the Murray Heutz Annual Service Report Card
In our last blog, we talked about the importance of routine annual maintenance for your home heating system – along with some of the performance areas we measure when we give your heating system its Annual Equipment Service Report Card (included as part of all our high-value Service Plans).
This week we’ll talk about three more vital measurements we take – and why we take them – when we come for our yearly maintenance visit.
The Murray Heutz Annual Equipment Service Report Card – What we measure, Part Two
Smoke – This measures how many carbon particles (i.e., how much soot) is contained in the air flowing from your heating system’s exhaust. Higher numbers indicate incomplete combustion, which requires additional service. Early detection and maintenance can help prevent soot buildup and more costly repairs later.
Carbon monoxide (CO) – This measures the amount of carbon monoxide produced by your heating system. Properly operating heating systems are very safe, but too much CO from a malfunctioning or poorly maintained heating system can be dangerous. We measure CO to make sure there is no cause for concern.
Combustion efficiency – This measures how much heat you’re getting for your fuel dollar. Much like miles per gallon for your car, the higher the efficiency number, the more value you are getting from your fuel purchases. System efficiency ratings can vary by system design, fuel type and equipment age.
As you can see, a lot of important things happen during a routine check-up for your heating system – which is why it’s so important to do it every year.
