4 Spring Tips for Your Heating System
Posted: April 1, 2019
Spring is probably not the time of year that most people associate with home heating. But make no mistake – you’re going to need your heating equipment to work correctly and reliably for at least another month or two to combat those chilly Central Maine nights and mornings.
Be sure to do these four things for your heating system in the coming weeks as we dig deeper into spring 2019:
Change your furnace air filters. We probably sound like a broken record on this one, but seriously: it’s one of the most important things you can do for your forced air heating system. A clogged air filter can lead to lower efficiency, higher bills, and more heating repairs down the road; check it once a month in seasons when your furnace is in use.
Clean your equipment. Heating equipment can gather a surprising amount of dirt and dust during the winter; it’s a good idea to get that gunk cleared now rather than leaving it to attract even more in the months ahead.
Schedule preventive maintenance. Your heating equipment can probably use a little professional attention after a long winter of hard work. Early spring is a great time to tackle routine maintenance for your furnace or boiler, since expert technicians are more readily available during this “shoulder season.”
Make sensible upgrades. Spring is a great time to buy a new heating system – lower demand and springtime incentives typically keep the price of heating equipment down, and installation appointment times will be more plentiful (there’s that shoulder season benefit again). Another great reason? Installing a heating system in spring is a good idea because you don’t desperately need heat the way you might during a fall or winter cold snap.
