While April 22 marks Earth Day on our calendars, it’s become increasingly important for us to give the earth the attention it deserves every day of the year—not just one day in April. This is definitely easier said than done, so we’re here to offer some tips in making this happen.
Recycling makes a difference. Turning off your car instead of letting it idle in a parking spot is a step in the right direction, too! But let’s look at some bigger-picture issues, like how we power our homes, from appliances to heat to backyard entertainment.
When you fuel your Central Maine home with propane rather than coal-fired electricity, you’ll be cutting your greenhouse gas emissions, and you’ll stay warmer in the winter! Overall, propane appliances are more efficient than their electric-powered counterparts. For example, a tankless propane water heater allows for a considerable reduction in energy consumption as compared to a similar unit that is powered by electricity.
Propane will reduce your carbon footprint, as it contains less carbon than other fossil fuels. It’s also safer than most fuels. In fact, in the event of a leak, it will not spill or even leave a residue behind. Instead, it dissipates into the air.
As you consider ways to run your household in a more earth-friendly way, other energy sources to keep in mind include ultra-low-sulfur heating oil (ULSHO), which is increasingly clean-burning, and solar panels, which are becoming more cost-effective and increasingly affordable every year.
